The Company’s social responsibility is reflected through initiatives in the areas of education and health care. In 1960, the Group established Bholaram Shivlal Kharkia College (intermediate and undergraduate courses). The Group collaborated with Lions Sight First Foundation to establish an ophthalmology hospital in Jharkhand in 1994. The hospital (built in memory of Raghunath Kharkia, the Group’s founder) is equipped with 28 beds, five doctors and state-of-the-art operation theatres (ophthalmology and general surgery).
The Group’s hospital conducts one of the highest number of eye surgeries in eastern India. A majority of these quality operations are conducted free for the needy. The institution, subsidised generously by the Group in nascent years, now reports a surplus that is invested in capital expenditure.
